Newson Clinic has been awarded a top rating of outstanding for its ‘exceptional’ standard of care after an inspection by a regulator.
Healthcare regulator The Care Quality Commission (CQC) praised Newson Clinic as ‘performing exceptionally well’ following an inspection in October 2025, which assessed whether the clinic was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The outstanding rating – which only a minority of healthcare providers in the UK receive – marks an upgrading of the clinic’s ‘good’ rating following a previous inspection in 2019.
Transformative care
Patient feedback collected as part of the inspection found those reporting a positive experience felt Newson Clinic’s care and treatment had improved their quality of life, that they felt listened to, staff had treated them with kindness and respect and helped them make informed decisions about their care. Patients’ comments included:
- ‘I finally knew I didn’t have to suffer the effects of menopause ever again’
- ‘It’s given me back my quality of life’
- ‘Their care has literally transformed my life’
- ‘They helped transform my life at a time when I felt most vulnerable’
- ‘I can only thank them for making a huge difference in my life’.
Inspectors also highlighted a post-appointment survey of 2,200 Newson Clinic patients, where 71% of patients rated their consultation experience as outstanding, and 27% rated their experience as good.
Specialised care, strong leadership
Founded in 2018 by Dr Louise Newson and Dr Rebecca Lewis, Newson Clinic specialises in perimenopause, menopause and wider hormone health conditions.
The CQC highlighted strong clinical leadership, clear governance, a positive safety culture and consistently positive patient outcomes. Inspectors highlighted the scale of the service, noting that since January 2022 the clinic has provided more than 125,000 appointments, and currently delivers an almost 2,000 appointments per month.
Inspectors also commended the clinic’s approach to measuring outcomes and improving care. In one analysis cited in the report, the clinic tracked symptom changes and found average symptom severity reduced from 86.2% to 56.8% over an average follow-up period of three months. A larger outcomes dataset referenced in the report showed improvements across a range of symptoms, including fatigue, sleep issues and anxiety.
Highest level of care
Commenting on the rating, Newson Clinic co-founder Dr Louise Newson said the rating was reflective of the standard of care our patients receive and deserve.
‘Most importantly, it is not a one-off achievement, but independent confirmation of how we operate every day – clinically grounded, robustly governed, and always putting patients first,’ she said.
‘The report recognises the clinic’s strong clinical leadership, clear governance, commitment to safety and consistently positive patient outcomes. Only a minority of healthcare providers in the UK receive an outstanding rating, placing the clinic among a small number delivering care at the very highest level.’
She added: 'This draws to a close what has been one of the most harrowing periods of my professional life and debunks false accusations made against me and my business by the BBC, fellow medical professionals and the British Menopause Society. I hope that the people involved will now reflect on how their false information has damaged the health outcomes of many women in the UK and worldwide.
'I will keep working hard with my mission to reach as many people as possible with information so they can make the right choices with them about their future hormone health.
'Thank you for all your support and kindness.'
Dedicated team
Newson Clinic co-founder Dr Rebecca Lewis, said: ‘This outcome reflects the professionalism, expertise and dedication of the entire team, and the standards they uphold every single day.’
Helen Harding, Clinic Manager at Newson Clinic’s flagship centre in Stratford-upon-Avon, added: ‘This outstanding rating is a testament to the teamwork, experience and care shown across the clinic.
‘I’m incredibly proud to work alongside such a committed and patient focused team.’
Greg Reilly, CQC deputy director of operations in the midlands, said Newson Clinics should be proud of the positive findings in the inspection report.
‘During our inspection of Newson Clinic, we found a service committed to supporting women with care that met their needs and helped them achieve their goals,’ he added.
‘Strong leadership backed this up, supporting staff well and demonstrating an excellent understanding of the service.’
